"Centinela del desirto"
From La Paz, I journeyed to a charming small town called La ventana. I spent ample time enjoying the ocean and beaches, but what truly captivated us was the town's unique landscape. La ventana is surrounded by magnificent tall cacti, primarily cardon cacti, which dominate the scenery for miles around. These towering succulents create a striking contrast against the coastal backdrop, filling vast expanses of land with their distinctive silhouettes. The juxtaposition of the lush beach environment and the arid cactus-filled terrain made for a truly memorable and picturesque experience.

 

In the stark, white expanse of "Centinela del Desierto," the towering silhouettes of saguaro cacti stand as sentinels, their iconic forms rendered in a minimalist, almost ethereal style that allows their inherent beauty to shine. Benzie's hand captures the saguaros' statuesque presence with a few confident strokes, the unique angle and uncluttered background lending an air of serene contemplation to the work.
